Samuel David McCoppin “Pop” of 33 McCoppin Drive Abbeville, SC was born in Abbeville, SC to the late JD and Biddie Mae McCoppin on August 14, 1937. “Pop” departed this life on April 5, 2024.
“Pop” was a well-known carpenter at several different companies in the state. His life was spent doing the things he loved best. He enjoyed his carpentry work, fishing, gardening, sitting at the local store Crawford’s, and Lake Secession’s dock just spectating when he wasn’t fishing.
“Pop” leaves to cherish his children: five daughters, Doris Settles of North Carolina, Tracy (Russ) Calhoun of Starr, South Carolina, Quantella Foggie, Wendy Dawson, Tara Dawson, all of Georgia; one son, Sagnelli (Dumonder) Dawson of Georgia; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his siblings, James (Wilma) Groves, Marshall McCoppin, and Sandra McCoppin-Smith all of Antreville SC. two sisters-in-law, Edna McCoppin and Shirley McCoppin; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a
dear close cousin, Carolyn McElreath.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Lee and his son Donovan Dawson. His parents JD and Biddie Mae McCoppin, three sisters; Linda McCoppin, Arleatha Sutton and Naomi Clinkscales. Four brothers; John Soloman McCoppin, Calvin McCoppin Sr., Johnnie Ray McCoppin, and JW McCoppin.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
